Jul 01, 1993 The bioleaching of a low-grade uranium ore in shaker and columns using natural, pure and mixed cultures has been studied. Initially, a chemical and microscopical characterization of the mineral was carried out. Orbital shaker experiments were performed to quickly obtain the best bacterial leaching conditions.
Bioleaching of uranium was carried out with Epicoccum nigrum isolated from El-Sella ore material. El-Sella area is located in the southern eastern desert of Egypt. The maximum bioleaching of UVI was found to be 76.6 at these optimum conditions 9 days incubation period, 0.5 pulp density, 30 C incubation temperature at shaking speed 175 rpm.
Bioleaching of uranium was carried out with Turamdih ore sample procured from Uranium Corporation of India Limited, Jaduguda. The bacterial strain that was used in the leaching experiments was isolated from the Jaduguda mine water sample. Efficiency of bioleaching was studied by varying parameters like pulp density and initial ferrous concentration as source of energy.

The influence of several variables on the bioleaching of a uranium ore was studied in stirred reactor orbital shaker. The importance of the mineralogical composition of the ore was revealed when variables such as nutrient medium, energy source and pH were studied. The bioleaching capacity of
The results of MLA automated quantitative mineralogy system indicated the uranium ore used in this study was mainly composed of pitchblende 0.47, quartz 64.91, fluorite 2.18 and pyrite 0.44. The existence of fluorine-containing minerals plays a strong inhibition role of bacterial activity in the bioleaching process. The chemical characteristics...
This study examined bioleaching of uranium ore at different acid concentrations by a novel consortium culture combined with both mesophilic and moderately thermophilic acidophiles containing 4 species of bacteria and 1 species of fungus. Four plastic buckets were set up with uranium minerals at room temperature about 27 -32 C at different acid concentration 6gl and 15gl for ...

Pyritic ore from Rio Tinto Minera, S.A. at Huelva Spain, was used as additive to the uranium ore in the bioleaching process. Chemical and microstructural analysis showed that the pyrite had a very high grade 77 Feamp with a very defective crystallization, both indispensable for the bioleaching to

Oct 01, 2002 The present paper deals with an experimental study on the bioleaching of a poor uranium ore by means of hydrophytic plants Lemna minor and Riccia fluitans , under various operating conditions. The maximum degree of bioleaching 42 of the reduced uranium species to UVI has been attained for the ore- Lemna minor -alkaline carbonate solution system. The UO 2 2 ions
Sep 29, 2010 The bioleaching of a low-grade Indian uraninite ore triuranium octoxide, U3O8 0.024, containing ferro-silicate and magnetite as the major phases, and hematite and pyrite in minor amounts, has b...
Bioleaching of low grade uranium ore containing pyrite using A. ferrooxidans and A. thiooxidans. A process of uranium extraction from ore containing 3.1 pyrite by bacterial leaching was investigated in shaken flasks during 90 days. The highest uranium recovery amounting to 85.1 was obtained using binary mixture of Acidithiobacillus ...
Aug 10, 2020 Uranium is bioleached from ores in acidic ferric sulfate lixiviant. Ferric iron oxidizes tetravalent uranium to the hexavalent form and is thereby reduced to ferrous iron in this redox reaction. Microorganisms in the bioleaching process oxidize ferrous iron to

Mainly Acidithiobacillus forrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans are found to be the most widely used bacteria in the bioleaching process of uranium. The...
uranium ore 10. In an acidic solution without the bacteria FeII is stable, and leaching mediated by FeIII would be slow. A. ferrooxidans can accelerate such an oxidation reaction by a factor of more than a million 8. Bioleaching of uranium in Indian scenario With the detection of uranium
3. Mechanism of Uranium Bioleaching There has been a long-standing debate as to whether the microbially assisted leaching of uranium ore is by direct or indirect mechanism. In the leaching of uranium, the bacteria do not directly attack the uranium mineral. But they generate FeIII from pyrite and soluble FeII.

As this ore did not contain much uranium, an artificial fluorapatite-uranium ore was prepared by mixing standard uranium ore and fluorapatite. The research with this ore showed that 89 of uranium dissolved in 3 days at pH 2 and leaching was improved by applying Fe3 oxidant. In these conditions only 4 of phosphorus was leached.

Tailings from inactive uranium mine sites represent a potential secondary source of rare earth elements REEs. For this study, two mine tailings DT and RAT from restored uranium sites in Ontario, Canada, were used. Bioleaching experiments were conducted with a mix of native sulfur- and iron-oxidizing bacteria to test the solubilization of REEs, U and Th at different temperatures 20, 30 and ...
